Iturbe started playing first team football with Cerro Porteño on June 28, 2009, at age 16, on a game against Libertad valid for the 21st week of the Paraguayan Primera División.
Being 17 years of age, Iturbe was not under professional contract with Cerro Porteño.Therefore, he signed for Quilmes on a free transfer in August 2010.
Iturbe's talent has drawn comparison with fellow Argentine Lionel Messi.
Widespread media speculation in both January and February 2010 implied that Iturbe had indicated a preference to sign with Porto rather than a host of other major European Clubs when eligible. It was also rumoured that once adapted to football in Europe, he would move on to Manchester United from Porto.

Unfortunately, following a series of spates with coaching staff and a pompous opinion of himself, the young Italian has already shown tendencies that have got a number of people in the country concerned the Nerazzurri youngster could be more trouble than he is worth - not that the young Italian of Ghanaian-extract is a unique case. Historically, Italian football can claim to be more blessed than most in it’s ability to produce eccentric, yet brilliant frontmen - think Ravenelli, Di Canio, Vieri and, of course, Antonio Cassano, just to name a hatful.

Having made his debut in the Italian professional game at the tender age of 15 for Lumezzane in Serie C1, Balotelli quickly drew the attention of the leading clubs with his obvious gift and €340,000 saw him join the Nerazurri in 2007. It was from here that the raw and still immature talent was nurtured until his debut for Inter in December 2007. This quick ascension to the top flight would be commendable whatever club team a hungry seventeen-year-old managed to force his way into but in the case of Super Mario he went that step further.

The team that Balotelli would break his way into was the reigning champions Inter, which boasted a stable of strikers including the likes of world-beaters in Adriano, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hernan Crespo. Usually young talent tends to be daunted by players of this ilk and a modicum of bravado would be understandable when you have managed to come to the world’s attention at such a tender age. However, Balotelli pushed the dial from ‘confidence’ to ‘conceited’ almost from the get-go.

Michael Owen could be set for a return to the Newcastle United starting line-up for tonight's vital home game with Middlesbrough.
The England international was left out of the starting XI by Alan Shearer for last weekend's defeat at Anfield but, with Obafemi Martins struggling with a groin injury, Owen could be in line for a recall for what is a must-win game.

Newcastle and their local rivals are level on 31 points, three points away from fourth from bottom Hull, with just three games to play causing Shearer to label tonight's encounter as the biggest game of his entire career.

Regaining his confidence and his prowess as a predator would, you imagine, not be sufficient to secure him a starting place. He does not have the speed to serve as a spearhead nor the dynamism to be an offensive fulcrum, nor even to pester tired defences in the way Tevez can. And - his sporadic flourishes 'in the hole' for Newcastle under Keegan notwithstanding – he is not creative or forceful enough to provide the presence or goals from midfield that United will miss with the departure of Ronaldo and the continued waning of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. He does offer the experience and nous that Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck currently lack but probably not enough to even replicate the role briefly played at Old Trafford by Henrik Larsson. The Owen-style of player is a near anachronism, that with which only the biggest clubs can afford to persist. Owen's role at United will, if he signs, be to spring off the bench on occasions when United are creating chances but failing to convert them. He will be to United what Kris Boyd is to Rangers, only less so.
